Choosing therapy is a courageous, insightful decision; it takes wisdom and strength to change. I view therapy as a collaborative process in which you and I work together to understand the problems that bring you to therapy. This includes us working towards mutually-identifed goals. Therapy with me will involve you talking about your thoughts and feelings, exploring behavioral and relational patterns, and understanding how past experiences may impact you even now. As we progress through this process we will work toward gaining greater awareness of how both conscious and unconscious processes play out throughout your life. Throughout all of this we will also identify ways in which to better manage any current symptoms, life stressors, and maladaptive behaviors.
I have considerable experience working with adolescents and adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, grief/bereavement, relationship issues, personality disorders, family-of-origin issues, and issues in relation to drug and alcohol use. I have considerable expertise and training working with LGBTQIA-identified individuals. I also provide couples counseling integrating emotion-focused work to better connect with your partner and more effective ways in which you both can communicate with one another.
Group therapy is known to be as effective as individual therapy and is sometimes the better choice for certain individuals. I have facilitated many therapy groups and have trained Masters and Doctoral students on how to facilitate groups. Please see "Services" for current group selections.
